The Senior Common Room offers opportunities to unwind, poolside or at the bar, and meet colleagues from across the Mona Campus community. Where else can a medic, a mathematician, an assistant registrar, and a foreign language specialist talk and find common ground? The SCR community welcomes academic staff at all levels of appointment, senior administrative staff, as well as postgraduate students in their second year or beyond.

SCR Club membership types

The Club admits UWI staff (academic and senior administrative staff) as full/credit members, with monthly membership paid through salary deductions. Current credit members can propose new credit members.

Associate membership of the Senior Common Room (SCR) Club is extended to persons outside The University of the West Indies whose association with it contributes to the University community, with dues paid annually. Such persons would usually hold positions comparable to those of University Academics, Senior Administrators and Professionals employed to The UWI, Mona Campus. To be considered for membership, applicants need to be proposed by a full member of the SCR Club and such application is to be seconded also by a full member.

Associate membership of the Senior Common Room (SCR) Club is also extended to Postgraduate Students at The UWI or other universities whose association with the Club contributes to the University community, at a reduced membership rate paid annually. Postgraduate students’ applications must include the signatures of two full members.

Members of academic or senior administrative staff of other universities or research institutions who are guests of the Mona Campus can be proposed for temporary membership, with fees waived, by a full Club member, or may apply for associate membership where their visit extends beyond three months. New membership forms are available at the bar.

Benefits of SCR Club membership

The Senior Common Room Club is the place where work-life balance is restored through games, sports, relaxation, parties and concerts, sports watch parties, and academic exchange. It is also the place where you can bring family members and friends as your personal guests to enjoy a poolside barbeque, a game of tennis, and so on.

The Club’s facilities include a pool, tennis & squash courts (booking at minimal cost), a badminton court currently slated for a refurbishment, a kiddies’ playground, barbeque facilities, and a bar which offers a wide array of drinks at concessionary prices. There is ample parking at the Club in close proximity to other UWI facilities. Members can rent the lounge for private meetings or the grounds (poolside, lawn, badminton court) for functions such as kiddies’ parties, birthdays, vivas, and other celebrations.

While we work with a new concessionaire to reopen the Senior Common Room’s coffeeshop, we anticipate once again offering lunch, dinner, and bar foods as well as premium coffee, to be enjoyed at the Club or for take-out.
